Woodturner

A spinning blank, a sharp tool, and shavings flying as a bowl appears from a log.

Why the human is the point

A log has a bowl hidden in it, and the woodturner finds it in minutes of controlled danger: wood spinning fast, a chisel held just so, ribbons of shaving peeling away until a form emerges. It is craft you can hear and smell, decisions made in real time with no undo, the grain revealing itself as the shape is cut. A machine can copy a bowl exactly. A turner reads this piece of wood, and makes the one bowl it wanted to be.
