Mosaic Artist
Thousands of small broken pieces, placed one by one, until a picture rises that no single tile could ever be.

Why the human is the point
A mosaic artist begins with a pile of fragments, cut stone, glass, and fired clay, the leftovers of harder materials, and decides where each one belongs. The magic is in the gaps as much as the tiles, the tiny rhythm of spacing that makes flat pieces seem to breathe and turn. Up close it is just colored rubble; step back and a face, a wave, a garden appears, assembled entirely from patience. Every tessera was chosen and set by a hand that judged its angle against the light. This is one of the oldest ways humans have said, I was here, and I made this last.
