Milliner

Steam, felt, and a wooden block, shaped by hand into the thing that finishes an outfit.

Why the human is the point

A hat is architecture for the head, and the milliner builds it: steaming stiff felt soft, blocking it over carved wood, and coaxing a flat disc into a shape that sits just so. It is a slow craft of heat and patience and an eye for the exact angle of a brim. A machine can press a cap by the thousand. It cannot look at your face and your occasion and make the one hat that turns you into the best-dressed person in the room.
