Why the human is the point

Leather is a material that remembers: it takes the shape of a hand, softens with use, and can last a lifetime if a person made it well. The leatherworker cuts, tools, and saddle-stitches by hand, building a bag or a belt or a saddle to outlive fashion. It is slow, tactile work in a world of glued and stapled goods. A machine can crank out a thousand wallets. A leatherworker makes one that gets better the longer you carry it, and mends rather than replaces.
