Goldsmith
A goldsmith warms a small piece of metal until it will do what the hand imagines.

Why the human is the point
A goldsmith works at the scale of a heartbeat: a ring, a clasp, a setting the size of a seed, made real with fire, file, and a very steady hand. Gold is forgiving and unforgiving at once, soft enough to shape and precious enough that every gram counts, so the work rewards judgment earned over years. Soldering a joint clean, setting a stone so it sits true, polishing until the surface holds the light, these are decisions made by feel as much as sight. A piece that comes off the bench carries the maker's attention on your finger for a lifetime. This is why people hand over their most loaded moments, engagements, births, farewells, to a person and a bench. The goldsmith is the reason a small gold thing can hold so much.
