Veterinary Technician
The calm hands an animal trusts when it cannot say where it hurts.

Why the human is the point
Animals arrive frightened and wordless, and a veterinary technician is the one who meets them there. They hold the trembling dog steady, read the cat that will not show its pain, and prepare everything so the vet can do their best work. So much of the job is quiet judgment, noticing the small change in breathing or the eye that says something is wrong. Owners feel it too, because a good tech soothes the human at the end of the leash as surely as the patient on the table. This is care given to creatures who cannot thank you in words, and given fully anyway. That kind of attention is its own kind of language.
