Train Conductor
A whole train of strangers, and one person responsible for every one of them arriving.

Why the human is the point
A train is a small moving town, and the conductor is its mayor: keeping time, keeping order, keeping the nervous traveler calm and the whole thing safe down the line. It is old-fashioned responsibility, the uniform and the watch and the call of the next stop, exercised over hundreds of people who never learn your name. Automation can hold a schedule. It cannot walk the carriages at midnight and make sure everyone is where they should be. A person does that.
