Why the human is the point

A forest is a two-hundred-year project, and the forester is its steward across a span longer than a life. They plant, thin, and protect woodland they will not live to see mature, balancing timber and wildlife and the quiet good of trees, deciding what to cut and what to let stand. It is patience and judgment on behalf of the future, in all weather, mostly unseen. No algorithm loves a wood. A person walks it, knows it, and hands it on better than they found it.
