Beekeeper

Tens of thousands of lives in one box, and a person who tends them without ever giving an order.

Why the human is the point

You cannot command a hive; you can only understand it. The beekeeper reads the mood of tens of thousands of insects through the sound and the weight of a frame, tends them through the seasons, and takes only what can be spared. It is stewardship of a wild thing that could sting but mostly trusts, in service of the pollination that feeds us all. No app keeps bees. A calm person in a veil does, one careful frame at a time, on behalf of a whole landscape.
