Saxophonist
One breath through brass, and a whole room feels the note bend.

Why the human is the point
The saxophone sits closest to the human voice of any instrument, which is why it can whisper, laugh, or wail depending on who is holding it. A saxophonist shapes every phrase with breath and lip and the smallest press of a fingertip, so no two players ever sound the same on the same horn. On a good night the solo is invented in real time, built in the space between one bar and the next while the band watches to see where it goes. You can hear the person in it, the nerve and the joy, the decision to hold a note one beat longer than expected. Lean into a jazz room late and the sound wraps around you like weather. That warmth is a human breathing through metal, and it is worth showing up for.
