Fisherman
Out on the water before the light, a fisherman reads the sea by feel and brings home the day's catch.

From curious to committed
Your first steps.
A first visit can be enough. It can also be the beginning.
Meet the craft
Small-boat charters and community trips let you haul pots or cast a net and feel a working day on the water.
Explore experiences →Give it another afternoon
Notice what you want to come back to. Ask the teacher what regular practice would look like, and what support you would need.
Keep a note for next time →See the working day
The classic way in is to crew for a skipper, learning nets, gear, and the sea through full seasons of paid work.
Explore ways into the work →These are starting points. A workshop is not a professional qualification. Entry requirements and recognised training depend on the work and the country.

Long before supply chains there was a person on the water at dawn, reading the sea for where the fish would be. The fisherman still works by that old knowledge: the set of the tide, the color of the water, the weight of a net, the small signs that say cast here and not there. It is hard, wet, hopeful work, done with weathered hands that mend line and haul in whatever the day gives. There is freedom in it and risk too, and a deep familiarity with a stretch of water that no chart can hold. To bring a good catch back to the harbour is one of the plainest, oldest satisfactions there is, and it still feeds the people ashore.
