Why the human is the point
Every instinct says run out. A firefighter's whole training is to walk in: into the heat, the dark, and the sound of a floor deciding whether to hold. They carry strangers down ladders and sit with the ones they couldn't save. No system reroutes a rescue; a person puts on the gear and goes. That we can still count on human beings to run toward what everyone else flees is not a technical fact. It is close to the best thing about us.
