Boatbuilder
A boatbuilder shapes wood into something that will carry people safely over deep water.

Why the human is the point
A boat has to do one thing above all, keep the water out and the people in, mile after mile, in weather that does not forgive shortcuts. The boatbuilder shapes each plank to the curve of the hull by eye and by hand, trusting a fairness that instruments alone cannot judge. Every joint is a promise made to whoever will one day be far from shore in it. To stand in a boat shop is to smell cedar and oak and to watch a shape emerge that is both mathematics and muscle memory. The boatbuilder still builds vessels the way you would want yours built, slowly, honestly, and to last.
